What to Wear to a Car Meet
A car meet is hours on your feet in a parking lot. It starts cold, gets warm, and ends with photos next to cars that cost more than a house. Here is how to dress for all of it.
The basics
- Layer up. Morning meets start cold. Wear a hoodie or jacket over a tee and take it off when the sun comes out.
- Comfortable shoes. You will stand and walk on asphalt for hours. Clean sneakers beat anything new or stiff.
- Pockets. Keys, phone, wallet, maybe a cloth for your own car. Sweatpants with real pockets help.
- Nothing that scratches. Big belt buckles, studs and hanging chains are a bad idea around paint. Better yet, do not lean on anyone's car.
- Sun cover. A cap and sunglasses for the afternoon.
Three easy fits
Cold morning
A heavyweight hoodie like the Cold Start Hoodie (500 gsm fleece) with the Garage Sweatpants or Racing Line Sweatpants. Add the Launch Jacket if it is really cold.
Warm afternoon
An oversized graphic tee does the work. The Spec Sheet Tee has a supercar spec sheet on the back, which starts conversations on its own. The Full Service Heavyweight Tee has a retro gas pump graphic.
Concours or a dressier meet
A polo looks put together without trying. The Club Polo has a white contrast collar; the Paddock Polo has contrast trim. Wear it with clean trousers or dark denim.
Meet etiquette in one minute
- Ask before you touch, open or sit in anyone's car.
- No burnouts, no revving contests, no speeding out of the lot. That is how meets get shut down.
- Pick up your trash and thank the host.
We host meets too. The next one is posted on the homepage. See the full line in Car T-Shirts and Car Hoodies and Sweatshirts.
