How to Style a Polo Without Looking Like You Are at Work
A polo can look like a work uniform or like the sharpest thing at the meet. The difference is fit and what you wear with it.
Start with the fit
- Relaxed, not baggy: a looser cut reads modern; just make sure the shoulders do not slide halfway down your arm.
- Sleeves: they should end around mid-bicep.
- Length: long enough to cover the waistband, short enough to wear untucked.
Buttons
Top button open, always. All buttons open if the collar lies flat. Fully buttoned is a look, but a deliberate one.
What to wear it with
- Relaxed trousers or dark denim: the easiest upgrade from a tee.
- Wide leg sweatpants: polo on top, soft on the bottom. It works because the collar keeps it intentional. Try the Racing Line Sweatpants.
- Clean sneakers: skip the running shoes.
- Layered: an open zip hoodie or jacket over a polo looks good on cool nights.
Contrast collars
A contrast collar or trim does the styling for you. It frames the face and makes a plain polo look designed. The Club Polo has a white contrast collar on a relaxed cotton and Sorona blend. The Paddock Polo has contrast trim on the collar and sleeves, with Dream. Drive. Repeat. on the back.
Where it works
Dinner, a concours, a day at the track, a meet where you want to look like you thought about it. See both in Polos, and the full car meet fit guide in What to Wear to a Car Meet.
